  2.  @johnshepherd8687  I was reading up on it. The sister ship that came along side to assist after the collision was, herself, ruined in a similar incident . . with the same carrier (JFK) a year later.

  3.  @a6mzeke1  I was thinking along the same line. One does not want to spend extra time and energy processing fuel with fuel. It would decrease availability, require a full redesign of many older ships (coke burns hotter), and screw the coaling stations placed around the world. Coaling is a time consuming process in any case, but the amount of coal being burned into coke that would be necessary to improve all coaling stations to carry coke would be cost prohibitive.
