A question to clarify a point: were there any ships NOT severely damaged by a close by mine detonation? Seems to me that every single mine that injured a ship did so critically; lowered speed, weakened/torqued hull, damaged shafts and more are the standard result, are they not? Ancillary to this: was there a ship that continued to perform missions without repair after mine hits? Additional question: did mines (despite the inefficiency/stupidity implicit in concept) severely damage and/or sink more ships than any other form of warfare? Not on a per mine statistical basis, mind you, but in total numbers of enemy units disabled, sent for repair before continuing mission, et al.
