  1. A typical squid or octopus does not live long, but it grows as long as it lives. If Colossal squid have a greater life span than typical squid or octopus, and they, like other squid, grow as long as they live . . . Imagine an abyssal realm of valleys and ridges where millions of larval or young giant and colossal squid pick among the moldering treasures of infalling detritus. It's a mean world down there anyway, but sperm whales and big sleeper sharks got to eat, too. Few squid get to big size, but those who can become monsters. Maybe some whales don't live to tell the tale?
