  1. An alien culture might become aware of the negative impact it has on existing systems, cultures, or the growth of life, and seek actively to limit that negative impact to a reasonable degree. Considering the energy requirements for transstellar/interdimensional travel, an advanced alien culture wouldn't send out expensive expeditions, or colonists, without an ironclad necessity driving the activity. I agree with Neil in that they could be here already, or have come and gone, and we (our less than global civilizations in constant flux from wars of economic mobilization or armed aggression, or expansion) did not have the ability to assemble all the available evidence into the sort of coherence that could subsequently enlighten us to that reality. Why would they let us-the most aggressive killers of other species on the planet-know anything?
