Aristophanes. A legitimate prodigy. But he spoke his mind and enemies (read-fans of the Socratic Method) crushed him after he passed away. The Birds, the Frogs, Lysistrata . . . and the finest work of topical comedy ever produced: The Clouds. He rules. Plato drools.

The Socratic method is highly contrived and, therefore, inadequate for any real reasoning. It requires an over credulous audience, a planted foil (either in the crowd or on the dais), and no credible dissent or counter proposal entertained or compared. It's the world's worst comedy routine. Nothing more. Nothing less. It is the opposite of informed debate or discussion. Just like a Mussolini speech. Aristophanes was right. Scholars backed the wrong intellectual horses in the Socratic School (Plato/Aristophanes). I expect from your glowing appreciation that you've read all the salient works? Have you read The Clouds with that same open mind? I'd be interested to know.

Socrates' school wrote to light the way for those who could not see in the dark. Aristophanes bid those same folks to simply open their eyes. Darkness banished. Big difference.
