  1. Redefining the words "intelligence" and "person" is a process long overdue. Are elephants people? What does this mean to our legal and ethical systems? Are orcas people? Can we, for instance, sign a treaty with an orca pod ceding us all the oceans in the world? There are historical precedents that suggest the answer may be "yes".
