  3. There are sidewalks and streets all across European countries that used Jewish headstones for that purpose during and especially after WWII. I watched a documentary years ago with some guys who went to one specific town to try to salvage remaining headstones and find others that people put around their gardens and barns (I forget the name) and otherwise chopped up for use - and for ‘decorative purposes’ but people there refused to let them go and even turned down money for them. “It’s mine and I keep it in my yard as a souvenir.” The citizens remained hardcore antisemites. It was agonizing to watch that and see so much venom and hatred, pure spite from their oldest citizens who remembered many of the Jews, and they even spat at the mention of the “accursed Jews, thank God the beggars and thieves are gone!” The headstones that were searched for were from a prominent, thriving, monied group of Jewish inhabitants before WWII so they were not only remembrances for loved ones but truly works of stonemasonry. How sad to listen to that hatred. There is a God whom they will one Day meet. He never slumbers or sleeps, and sees all.
