I think it’s why so many Christmas cards are of cardinals in branches of holly against a snowy backdrop. Absolutely beautiful!

@DixieDee I’ve always heard that a cardinal is a sign of an Angel, and someone told me there’s a Bible verse with that but I can’t find it. It is comforting to think it an angelic herald though, whether it’s true or not. I kind of believe that’s an old tale, that people wanted it to be that. We can think it if we want to. I don’t see any wrong in that. But I like your description better. God bless!

@wholeNwon They mate for the entire season and sometimes longer if they stay together in the same area. The female chirps from the nest for the male to start bringing her food when she can’t leave the nest long enough. He watches the nest as carefully as his mate. He helps feed every day which is why they start chirping and calling, they know each other’s calls. The male will get attention to himself and fly away from the nest to protect the female and eggs and later the little ones. They both help their young begin to fly and will stay close until the little ones are in flight. Often they build a second nest and raise two sets of offspring in one season. They are beautiful, intelligent and fascinating creatures, and if they know a human is feeding and helps keep their nest safe they show their appreciation for you by giving their trust.
