  1. I never understood the attraction to Oprah. She’s from Kosciusko MS. I just refer to her as ‘Okrie head,’ a derivation of ‘okra head.’ I don’t know why; it’s like a term for a hayseed, I suppose. Plus a friend from work was from that same little town, and the same age. The stories that were true about her weren’t very positive ones. My friend had nothing good to say about ’Okrie head.’ She didn’t bad mouth her, but she didn’t shine a bright light on her as far as how she handled herself, and how and what she did, said and used to get her start. Not very nice.

  2. I read a comment last night somewhere that said something to the effect that there would be no Beyoncé at the DNC, nor were there any of the anticipated mega stars. So the lineup of speakers brought out were the Easter bunny, the wizard of Oz, and a chupacabra. I wish I could remember the comment verbatim, but at least with just the names, there’s enough to pull it together. If you type ‘chupacabra’ and select ‘look up,’ you’ll see an artist’s rendition of one; then look at the thumbnail photo for this segment. I still double over with laughter just thinking about it!
