For the people who say that having children means that you’ll never be lonely, here’s the reality for a lot of people.

Do something about it! Tell them you want to go to lunch on a certain day and choose the restaurant. Don’t wait for everyone else to step up. If they won’t make time for your wants and needs, stop being so giving!

Did you do things without your daughter at times? Did you make plans and keep them? Were your conversations about life in general or did you only talk about your daughter?

@carolynlyfordsullivan1377 aw, I wish you were close to me. We could help each other because I know that eventually we are elderly and will need help.

@cheerlynstovall5506 it's not your responsibility to babysit and you deserve to rest and enjoy the later years. Go out and make friends, get your peace. If your son doesn't step up to his wife about how she treats you then write him off!

@vanderbam2741 we don't need to have children in order to give an opinion. I wrote the comment at the top and a lot of people agree with me. We can understand that parents are abandoned by their children because we pay attention and it's obvious. Check out the comment from @D R who has children, but is terrified of being alone in their old age. Your smugness is annoying and I hope that you don't end up abandoned in a care home somewhere.

Ask him what you can do to help. It helps to be direct with the person rather than guess what you’re supposed to do to help. You could look into local organizations for older people that have activities or try to interest him in a hobby.
