The U.S. has banned Hong Kong gangster films financed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) or Triad organizations, making them unavailable on platforms like Netflix, Paramount+, HBO, Cinemax, etc. This decision stems from economic sanctions imposed by the United States. For instance, Donnie Yen expressed interest in starring in Sleeping Dogs. The U.S. controls the fundings, trademark, Hollywood rights, which raises concerns about why it couldn't fund the Sleeping Dogs movies (video games franchise). This is largely due to the implementation of national security laws, which benefit Chinese Triads by allowing them to circumvent intellectual property protections in China and Hong Kong. As a result, cooperation with U.S. authorities has diminished, leading to a withdrawal of funding from the U.S. Sleeping Dogs was replaced with Russell Crowe. The film company controls the trademark; the movie is not related to video game franchise (sleeping dogs).
