  4. That makes less than no sense. How long do you think such a deception would hold up under scientific scrutiny given the profile of this disease? Why would it be worth trashing your academic credibility for a lie that cannot yield any possible advantage?

  5. They're not supposed to do anything. Mutations are random as are the characteristics of the resulting viruses. The viruses may get less or more virulent. Of course a virus that kills all its hosts won't last long itself.

  7. Well, for one, if this is faked, any scientist listed as a co author has just committed professional suicide because it won't take long for researchers elsewhere to check the results and uncover the fraud.

  9. Time between generations is much shorter. This is an RNA virus that has only one strand of nucleotides. This is more prone to replication errors than DNA, the double helix form providing some error correction. That's my understanding anyway.
