  4. It was a lending business wasn't it? Taking investor money and lending it out to others. I don't see any inherent reason why the business model should have failed. They just overpromised and took on too much risk without proper safeguards. If the CEO was also artificially pumping the stock, well this outcome is a good example of why you don't do that.
