What it says is that between the construction of Stonehenge and today, the method of construction was not passed down, so we are left with the degraded remains of the monolith and a variety of more or less plausible explanations. It's no failing on our part that we don't have that information.

 @werquantum The thing is, we don't have the remnants of the tools used to build Stonehenge. If we did, it would be a straightforward exercise to deduce their workflow. It's not as if we can't propose plausible explanations on account of the ancient technology being too advanced for our monkey brains to understand, it's that there are any number of possible techniques that might have been used and we have no clear evidence to favour one method over another.
