  1. FWIW: The first time I ever read about Project Orion was in the book THE LOST WORLDS OF 2OO1 by Arthur C Clark. That book detailed how the novel version of 2OO1: A SPACE ODYSSEY came about, and included some information about the movie. Clarke wanted the USS Discovery to be an Orion-type vehicle, but for various reasons the idea was abandoned for the movie.
