  1. This case is vaguely similar to the Eastern Airlines Lockheed L-1011 night time crash near Miami, Florida in the early 1970s. The flight deck crew had a faulty landing gear indication. They got so fixated on that problem that did not notice they had unintentionally entered a very gradual descent. The crew noticed something was wrong with the altitude just before the aircraft impacted the ground in the Florida Everglades.
