  2. By posting this comment I do not mean to directly criticize the idea behind this aerial bombing campaign. That said, the downside to staging a bombing campaign designed to demoralize the enemy into surrendering is if your senior government leaders and military resemble the word "fanatical" -- the likes of which the world had never seen part of the 20th century -- the effectiveness becomes less definitive. In the case of Nazi Germany it took the suicide of that country's leader. In the case of Imperial Japan, it took an incendiary carpet bombing campaign AND THEN TWO A-BOMBS to get the desired result.
