Helium Road >>> Here's some trivia for you: If you watch Slim Pickens as he says that, it looks like he says something other than "Vegas". I noticed that years ago myself. When they filmed the scene, he actually said "Dallas", as in Dallas, Texas. President Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas just before the movie premiered. So Kubrick changed the dialog to "Vegas".

The History Guy: History Deserves to Be Remembered >>> FWIW: I'm an 'AVIATION NUT', but I ALWAYS thought the KC-135 was developed from the 707, not the Dash 80....

@michaelmooney3369 >>> AFAIK: Being that close to the bomb, Major Kong's brain would have been vaporized by the heat before any optic nerve impulses reached his brain.

The Aluminaut is now on display at a museum, although at the moment I forget where....

Son Of Sobieski >>> Thanks. I thought it might be in Virginia somewhere, but I COULDN'T remember for sure.

The History Guy: History Deserves to Be Remembered >>> "He'll see everything. He'll see the big board!" FWIW: Two of my five favorite films are by Kubrick: 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY {my all-time favorite}, and DR. STRANGELOVE (Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb).

The History Guy: History Deserves to Be Remembered >>> BTW, was your source THE NEW YORK TIMES? 😝

The History Guy: History Deserves to Be Remembered >>> I am NOT an expert on doing excavations, although I CAN work a shovel...😊 Humor aside, I'm surprised that after 5+ DECADES we don't have the technology to dig, despite the groundwater, and recover the bits still in the ground?

"No more than ten to twenty million, tops. Depending on the breaks."

Nicholas Barnard >>> Vids shot on Gen. 1 GoPros... 😉

John Burkee >>> Can you get close to this location now? One of my hobbies is kite aerial photography [kap], and for some time I've been interested in trying to take aerial photos of that site. FWIW: I'm originally from Florida, but have lived in N.E. NC since 1995. I have three high school friends {also from Florida} who now live around Goldsboro. I never heard of the 1961 Goldsboro incident until sometime after I moved to NC, and I was somewhat shocked when I did learn of it. ONE THING I have wondered about is whether there has ever been - it could someday be - groundwater contamination from the radioactive material left in the ground...?

The History Guy: History Deserves to Be Remembered >>> When I first learned about the Goldsboro, NC incident, I remember reading a quote from one person involved, saying if one of the nukes had detonated, then in place of Goldsboro we would today have the Bay of North Carolina.... EDIT: I just found that Bay quote here: https://www.ourstate.com/hydrogen-bombs-north-carolina/

John Burkee >>> BTW, you said your grandmother was a young girl when this happened. I was about 2 weeks old when it happened, so I'm not much younger than your grandmother...LOL

Christopher Conard >>> If the bomb was subjected to a severe shock, then so would we....

Jacob Zondag >>> AFAIK, the name of their system uses the name {in Hebrew} of the traditional yamakes [sp???] they wear.

Jacob Zondag >>> I read that a few years ago in an article about that system....
