  2. FWIW: I was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida, and I do not recall ever seeing lightning bugs there. I lived in Dade County, Florida from 1988 to 1995, and I did RARELY see lightning bugs there. Where I was first 'introduced' to lightning bugs {starting in the latter 1960s or early 1970s} was on summer vacation trips to Southern Indiana. Both of my parents were from there, and we stayed with relatives -- my Mom's Aunt and her husband. {My Dad had a Sister living some 15-20 miles from there as well.}. It was THERE in Indiana that I first encountered lightning bugs. However, I NEVER saw them synchronized.
