FWIW: A couple of years ago at the local dump I saw a guy disposing of two objects into the 'scrap metal object' bin {or whatever it was called}. I did not realize what they were until he actually threw them in: They were two metal ammo boxes, which looked to be in good shape. I mentioned it to the attendant -- I thought it was a waste for them to be thrown out like that -- and the attendant actually grabbed them both and gave them to me. I took them both home, both were in very good condition. Why the gentleman discarding them did not donate them to the local thrift store, I have no idea.
