(1) I never knew the US considered a vehicle like this before now. (2) I think the name "Caspian Sea Monster" is SO COOL...π

PROJECT ORION still -- to my knowledge -- represents the only SSTO {Single Stage To Orbit} spacecraft design that has both HIGH THRUST and HIGH SPECIFIC IMPULSE that could be built with existing technology.

IMO the NATO designation "FROGFOOT" is right up there with "THUNDERSCREECH." π

FWIW: A while back I read an article/technical paper/{whatever} from the 1960s or early 1970s, written or cowritten by Francis M. Rogallo It was about the potential future uses of the flexwing/parawing he invented. ONE of those uses was for a flying submersible. There was no real detail about the design other than it was mentioned, so I do not know if there was any actual research towards a prototype or not.

If this thing was under construction during the war, what became of the parts that were completed by war's end?

After hauling TENS -- maybe HUNDREDS -- OF MILLIONS passengers at Walt Disney World in Florida, they have had only ONE fatality. How many light rail systems can make that claim?

The ME-163 Komet was another amazing design, although mostly ineffective AND dangerous to fly. It still holds the distinction of being the ONLY purely rocket propelled fighter aircraft to be used in combat.

FWIW: IMHO the greatest thing Sir Barnes Wallis created was the geodesic airframe of the Wellington bomber. That 'structure' was absolutely beautiful.
