  1. Starting at about 01:38 in this video: For some years I have wondered if Sputnik 1 'tumbled' or had a fixed orientation while on orbit. All the {Soviet?} filmed recreations portraying it showed a stable orientation. AFAIK Sputnik 1 had no built-in attitude control system, so unless it was spun up to stabilize it gyroscopically before being released from its rocket booster, It should have eventually started tumbling.
