  1. For the younger people out there, just automate your investments and forget about them for 20 or 30 years. STAY THE COURSE. Investing is long-term. You can't get spooked by short-term volatility. People are naturally averse to risk, so you have to find a way to accept short-term risk in order to reap long-term gains. Even the "experts" are terrible at timing the market, what makes people think they will succeed? The answer is, you won't. Low-cost index funds and time in the market is the only way. Minimize your debt and by the time you're 40 or 50 years old it will all make sense to you. It should be everyone's goal to be nearly financially independent by age 50, and anyone can do it with discipline and consistency.

  2. You can still save for retirement while renting. You don't have to own a home. I own a home, and believe me, it's not necessarily better than renting, there are ongoing expenses. One isn't better than the other, but if you rent, you have to be extra disciplined and make it a point to save.
