@noktumwhatever753 Although the criminal justice system in my county is ridiculous, you do go to jail on a DWI. There's no going to the station to get a ticket and going home. WTF is that? I couldn't believe that when I started watching these police bodycam videos that there are states that actually do this. What an absolute joke.

I have a close relationship with my parents too, I couldn't imagine either. I don't think I would be able to contain my rage at someone that did this. They would have had to take me to jail. As a first responder, I've been on too many of these scenes of people's lives completely ruined or lost because of reckless/impaired driving. A lot of people have no idea what kind of damage can be done to the human body in vehicle accidents.

There's way more stigma attached to it now though. In the 80's and 90's, it was a lot more common honestly. We didn't have Uber, and quite frankly, people didn't think it was that big a deal to drive a little buzzed. The cultural attitude around it has definitely changed, but people still do it unfortunately.

While I am disgusted with our judicial system, and I am the first person to call for harsh sentences for criminals, this was a negligent homicide, not a first degree, pre meditated murder. I would be fine with a 30 year sentence. That would effectively take his entire adult life from him. I have no sympathy for this guy whatsoever, but let's keep things in perspective. Life sentences are for the worst of the worst. This was bad, but he's not Ted Bundy.
