  1. Changing your own oil is cheap. Why chance it? There is absolutely nothing wrong with "overchanging" your oil. I'm not chancing a 10,000 mile oil change interval. 5,000 miles, every single time. I used to change it every 3,000 miles back in the 90's, so 5,000 miles seems like a long time to me, but I know how much synthetic oil has changed the game.
