You consistently put out some of the best auto repair content on YouTube. I am not a mechanic, but do love to fix my vehicles when I can, and I've always loved cars and engines and everything that goes into them. Great content, no BS, no filler, no unnecessary music, love it. Keep up the good work.

The best video on YouTube on how to maintain your vehicle, if you're the type of person to drive your vehicles "until the wheels fall off". In today's economy, there are a lot more people that fall under that category than ever before. People are keeping their cars a lot longer. Bite the bullet and do the maintenance. Those costs are far less than engine and transmission work, or a new car altogether.

The best thing to do is tune out the noise. The business of investing is rife with snake oil salesman and scam artists. People that make a living on exploiting peoples fear of the unknown. Listen to Bogle and stay the course.

You're not really supposed to change viscosities lol. You put in what is recommended for the engine, nothing else.

@Olds_Pwr It's not "falling for" something. The engines are specifically designed to use a certain oil. Many modern engines have very narrow oil passages, thus need very light oils. Changing oils was fine on old cars, and people did that, but everything now needs very specific fluids and oils.

@Olds_Pwr All I’m saying is you’re supposed to use the recommended viscosity. You don’t have to buy the expensive brands, that’s not what I’m saying, but modern engines need very specific viscosities. Either you lucked out or have an older engine with a wider tolerance. Ask any mechanic worth his salt and he’ll tell you to not mess around with viscosity, use what the manual says. It’s also a good idea to find a favorite brand and stick with it.

IMO you need a V8 (at least, diesel if you tow regularly) in a full size pickup, for no other reason but to accommodate the weight of the vehicle. V6 in a Tacoma is perfect, not in a Tundra. You know why people say V8's are smooth? Because the engine isn't straining as much under load than a V6 or 4-cylinder. I'm sorry but the old cliche "no replacement for displacement" is true. I just don't see small engines holding up in the long run in these big trucks.

I'm blessed to live near an amazing independent shop that I have been using almost my entire life. It's completely family owned, with 3 generations working there. Really really great people, honest, and very skilled mechanics. That's very rare in the auto repair world. If you find a shop like this, consider yourself lucky. I'm just praying the younger generation of that family keeps the tradition going as the original owner is getting up there in age, and doesn't really work anymore, just stops in once in a while.

Definitely keep the tile if it's all good. Why spend money where you don't have to? Yeah you want your business looking how you want, but I've never walked out of an auto repair shop because I didn't like the color of their tile.

My first and only Toyota was a 1980 Toyota Tercel. I think it's safe to say Toyotas have come a long way since then lol. I would like to eventually find a used Tacoma, but I live in a cold area with salt use, so the old ones are oftentimes pretty rusty.

Ford Lightnings weren't all that cool to begin with. Both of those are a hard pass.

If I were in the market for a new car, the Crown would be at the top of my list. I disagree with your take on the N/A engine. That is a good thing. I for one, don't want a turbo. A lot of people care about reliability.

Changing your own oil is cheap. Why chance it? There is absolutely nothing wrong with "overchanging" your oil. I'm not chancing a 10,000 mile oil change interval. 5,000 miles, every single time. I used to change it every 3,000 miles back in the 90's, so 5,000 miles seems like a long time to me, but I know how much synthetic oil has changed the game.
