  1. even going right back to the end of WW2 the American news has never been fully "free" The government said every country in the world should have a free press but hen India wanted a free press. To report the US news in India by Indian reporters it was told NO you get the American news form AP and you will have to buy it. All news items in America were censored to some degree and any mention of communism had to be negative, the issue just gets worse.

  2. Personally I would think the story of the press in the USA starts after the war. When you wanted a free press, as did India but you made them get their news from Associated Press, so right off the bat not a free world wide press. Also at this time it was thought Americans might like communism if they hear the truth so blocked all news about it, and censored all the other news coming in that might give the average yank something different from the 2 party system.
