Everybody was making those and understood where things were going and M-R pact was only Stalin's attempt to buy some time. There's plenty of documentary footage of how Soviet troops were greeted after pushing nazis back. Orchestras and flowers. And after Soviets gifted them their independence, they were immediately absorbed by NATO without any referendums, anywhere. Bringing corrupt, puppet politicians to power was never a problem for the US. They wouldn't have to experience Russian liberation again if they just stayed neutral. This is obvious.
