Which would be a deranged enough viewpoint for some rando to have. But Weinstein was a professor of evolutionary biology. The fact that he doesn't fucking know better is insane.

@lachlanbell8390 Aside from the claims that US power is declining being complete bullshit, Weinstein's idea that China's gender ratio has skewed toward males is somehow an evolutionary adaptation to create a disposable army is beyond comical.

@lachlanbell8390 It's not a matter of motivation that makes Bret Weinstein's claims so ridiculous, it's a matter of biology. He claims that Chinese people suddenly "evolved" to have mostly male babies in order to create a larger army. That's not how evolution works. As an evolutionary biologist himself, Weinstein knows that full well. He's just peddling crazed racism because that's what he makes his money doing now. The reality is Chinese culture has always valued boys far more than girls, because only a boy can grow up to carry on the family name. And because the parents of a girl are expected to pay a dowry to the family of her husband. So when the CCP imposed the one-child policy, women would tend to get an abortion if their first (and thus only allowed) child was going to be a girl. In Chinese culture, it was both a social and financial liability to have only a daughter and not a son. This shouldn't be too hard to understand, since for most of Western history, our own culture has had those exact same traditions. It's only very recently that there's been any movement at all away from such thinking in the West.
