Seriously, a lot of those classic sitcoms were "woke" as hell. That's part of why they hold up so well 50 years later: they were way ahead of the curve, not just in terms of comedy but also in terms of society.

What Seinfeld fails to notice, is that there was a hell of a lot of "woke" in so many of those 60s and 70s comedy classics. A lot of them were made by flaming lefties, and it showed. So his premise that it's "woke" that's preventing similarly great comedy from being made now is obviously wrong. I mean seriously, how dumb does Jerry have to be to not realize that MASH was as woke as it gets in 1972.

That's part of it, but even that wouldn't explain his ignorance about how those classic 70s sitcoms he's praising were in fact super-woke. How can anybody watch MASH and not realize what a flaming lefty show it was? That was the whole point, using a Korean War setting to slip a Vietnam War protest show under the radar.

Not to mention that the entire thing was an anti-war show at a time when openly protesting the war would get you fired and blacklisted by the conservative establishment.
