  1. Rather fitting that the National Sheriffs' Association uses a fasces as their symbol. Not every group that uses the fasces as a symbol is fascist, of course. The fasces has existed for at least 2500 years. Even the Roman Republic was copying the earlier Etruscan civilization in using the fasces as a symbol of government authority. But the National Sheriffs' Association was founded and adopted that symbol in 1940, when it was very well known as the symbol of Mussolini's fascists.
