@user-ox9mk7cr2h That's interesting, given that Norway isn't even in the EU. But I guess the average person in Saint Petersburg doesn't know that. And no, there are not any Norwegians dying because of ambulances supposedly not being able to drive fast.

If the EU federalizes, it's unlikely that "exiting" would be allowed anymore. A federalized EU would be Europe as a single country. And no country allows secession. Secession only ever happens via a successful rebellion.

Yeah, a "federal EU" would need to exclude Hungary.

The problem is, a decentralized Europe can never be strong enough to fully stand up to the United States.

@NativeAuslander It's Britain that's been declining ever since the debacle of Brexit.
1
@HSE331 What planet are you living on? It's the majority of Britons who now want to rejoin the EU, while the EU is at best skeptical about letting them back in.
1
@boxtradums0073 Norway isn't part of the EU.
1
@Viper54K Sure you did.
1
@Viper54K Yeah, you're fooling no one. And which government am I supposedly always agreeing with?
1
@colliefields4637 The current regime in the United States is extremely pro-Russia and increasingly anti-Europe. The idea that Trump wants Europe to be stronger is nonsense. He's an autocrat whole hates democracy and loves his fellow autocrats like Putin and Xi.
1
The entire narrative that "the EU is failing" is a lie.
1
@jholidays The "something sinister" is Russian aggression to the east, and an increasing threat of American aggression to the west.
1
@EnRandomSten The Swedish people were overwhelmingly in favor of joining NATO. It's fundamentally dishonest to portray that as an example of politicians ignoring their voters.

A federalized EU would likely result in a reduction of that income disparity. In the United States, for example, the income gap even between the poorest and the richest states isn't as large as that between Portugal and Germany.
1
Why on Earth would Russia be part of the EU?
1
@ Being in Europe is not by itself enough to be admitted into the EU. It also requires (among other things) a committed to democratic values, something that Russia clearly lacks.
1
@ It's elitist to say that a union built on democracy only allows democracies to join?
