Using lethal force to suppress peaceful protests is the standard way of operating in Russia. It wouldn't occur to a Russian to think that's a bad idea. And yes, in fact, the Ukrainian protesters did just organize themselves. They did in fact just arm themselves to fight back when the government got violent. The United States had nothing to do with it.

And "Crimea had previously been a part of Russia" because Russia conquered it and committed genocide against the indigenous Tatars. Russians are not a majority in Donetsk and Luhansk, they're only about 1/3 of the population. Framing Russia's war of conquest as a "peace keeping incursion" is insane, and the "diplomatic solution" that Trump is seeking is to force Ukraine to surrender.
