@sombra1111 But that literally is what happened. No actual testing had ever been done of the hypothesis that Komodo dragons' mouths are full of particularly nasty bacteria. The original paper hypothesizing this to be the case had been considered so authoritative that it was just assumed there must have been good evidence of it.
