"The people" means exactly what it sounds like. Read through the Constitution. You'll find that nowhere are the words "the right of the people" used to refer to anything except an individual right.

"High capacity" is an inherently arbitrary term.

Support for the "assault weapon ban" is based purely on ignorance. Thanks in large part to deceptive reporting, people think that the 1994 ban covered full-auto machine guns. In actuality, civilian ownership of full-auto weapons has been heavily restricted since 1934, and the sale of any NEW full-auto weapons to civilians was outright banned in 1986. But since most people don't realize this fact, they think machine guns are easy to buy, and thus favor an "assault weapon ban".

So the 2nd Amendment doesn't apply to modern technology, because the founding fathers could never have imagined modern weaponry. But the 1st Amendment DOES apply to modern technology. Sure, that makes perfect sense. The reality is that claiming EITHER amendment only refers to the technology that existed in the 1780s is a moronic argument. And so is claiming that "well regulated militia" is the key phrase of the 2nd Amendment rather than "the right of the people" or "shall not be infringed".

And the 1st Amendment was written when "the press" referred literally to printing presses, and the idea of something like the Internet was even LESS conceivable than a semi-auto rifle with a 30-round magazine. Does that mean the 1st Amendment doesn't apply to TYT's Youtube videos? That it would be within Congress's authority to ban them? Also, we certainly did have police at the time the 2nd Amendment was written. And the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps all date back to 1775.
