Some of the earliest gun control laws were in the late 19th century, which allowed only certain types of revolvers to be owned in various parts of the South. Those being the most expensive types, naturally, so as to guarantee that few black people would be able to afford a gun. It also priced poor whites out of owning a gun, but that was considered an acceptable sacrifice by the rich landowners and the KKK types.
