  2. Most of the time when somebody sells their gun, it's not to buy another gun. It's because they either don't want it anymore or need some quick cash. What you're talking about (somebody without a criminal record acting as a middle-man to let convicted criminals bypass the background check) isn't private sales, it's straw purchasing. That's ALREADY a felony.

  4. BTW, Cenk, gun manufacturers make NO money from the private sales that have no background check. Private gun sales are, by their nature, of USED guns. The manufacturer only makes money on the original sale. In fact, gun manufacturers might profit MORE from universal background checks, due to a slight increase in new gun sales. Also, the claim that 40% of gun sales are private sales with no background check is inaccurate. It comes from a single 15-year-old survey answered by a mere 251 people.
