The text of the law is "Civic leagues or organizations not organized for profit but operated exclusively for the promotion of social welfare, or local associations of employees, the membership of which is limited to the employees of a designated person or persons in a particular municipality, and the net earnings of which are devoted exclusively to charitable, educational, or recreational purposes." If the law were enforced as actually written, super-PACs wouldn't be a problem.

  3. The real scandal is that, despite the extra scrutiny, these Tea Party groups ended up being approved for tax-free nonprofit status. Such status is SUPPOSED to be only for non-political groups. By law, 501(c)(4) groups are "Civic leagues or organizations not organized for profit but operated exclusively for the promotion of social welfare". There are no Tea Party groups, and few if any political groups of any kind, that legitimately meet that standard, yet they get 501(c)(4) status anyway.

  5. There's no such thing as a fair sales tax. The sales tax is an inherently unfair tax, and it always favors the the "people with excess income" by its very nature. Also, encouraging saving isn't always a good thing. Saving money away to retire is one thing, but if everyone minimized their spending the result would be permanent recession. Consumer spending is, after all, the driving force of the economy.
