If Democrats cave to Trump now, that guarantees that he will hold those 800,000 federal workers hostage again in a few months. If a stand isn't made here and now, federal workers' paychecks will be cut off every time Republicans have some new law they want to force Democrats to pass. As such, it's essential that Democrats give Trump nothing. That way Republicans can be shown that they can't extract any benefit from ruining the lives of federal workers.
