  1.  @jaydunno8266  The American Southwest is actually where camels first evolved. It was still an excellent environment for them in the 19th century. But despite the obvious merit of the idea, with camels offering significant advantages over mules, in the post-Civil War era the fact that it had been championed by then-Secretary of War Jefferson Davis was probably not helpful in getting it restored.
