Given that presumably the Archduke still gets assassinated and Austria-Hungary still goes to war with Serbia regardless, imagine how World War I would've turned out if the Anglo-German alliance had actually happened. I can't see things going well for Russia and France if Britain joins the Central Powers. Outside of Europe, Britain entering the war on Germany's side means most likely their ally Japan does as well. Rather than taking German colonies as in our timeline, they'd see this as an opportunity to seize French Pacific colonies and North Sakhalin. And maybe even attempting an invasion of the Kamchatka Peninsula.

@1977Yakko There had been multiple warnings that those cruisers shouldn't be used for patrolling the North Sea because they were too vulnerable and no longer combat-effective. But they continued to be sent out anyway because of lack of anything more suitable. The Royal Navy was hoping they'd just hold out until the Arethusa-class light cruisers (which were much faster and thus a difficult target for submarines) were completed. But U-9 wasn't willing to cooperate with that plan.

Even turn of the century armoured cruisers were seen as such. Hence the nickname "Live Bait Squadron" for the 7th Cruiser Squadron. And just 1 month after the UK entered the war, a single U-boat wiped out the squadron.
