While I would agree with Drach's assessment of Fusou's pagoda, I found Yamashiro's to be the most aesthetically pleasing of all the IJN battleship rebuilds. Probably because of how the base of the pagoda looks intact on Yamashiro, whereas on Fusou there's a huge chunk taken out to make room for the repositioned P turret's forward-facing barrels.

During the early pre-dreadnought era, France went through a brief period of spectacularly ugly ships. That's why the question specified "non-French", so that Jauréguiberry and Masséna would be excluded. (Some of the other early French pre-dreadnoughts were also ugly, but honestly not to the point of qualifying for a "10 ugliest" list.)

The main advantage if the error in the Iowa design had allowed the 16-inch Mark 3 guns to be used wouldn't even e that you get slightly higher muzzle velocity while firing the same shells. It'd be that the ships would've entered service sooner, due to not needing a new gun to be designed and built. Given the timing of when Illinois and Kentucky were ordered, they would still be cancelled while incomplete at the end of the war. Perhaps Iowa would've even been available for the latter half of the Solomons campaign.

@bkjeong4302 The big advantage of battleships in the air defense role wasn't the number of AA guns (you could bring in multiple cruisers to achieve the same effect in that regard as a single BB) but in fire control and radar.
