You mention there were criticisms of the secondary turrets being so widely spaced, and suggest that it would've made more sense to place at least some of the 7.5-inch guns in twin turrets instead. But it seems to me that the really obvious answer that somebody should have thought of was to discard the secondary battery entirely and put 2-3 single 9.2-inch guns on each side. (I'm guessing that 9.2-inch twin turrets on the wings would be completely impossible without either widening the hull by at least several feet or taking the rather insane step of deleting sections of the belt armor amidships to make room.)

  2. I think you'd need a complete redesign from the keel up to have room for 9.2-inch twin turrets on the wings, and likely end up with an even bigger ship unless you sacrificed some armor. But 2-3 single 9.2-inch turrets on each side in the place of the 5 single 7.5-inch would probably have been doable without that much change to the hull.

  3.  @sadwingsraging3044  But that's the thing. The 7.5-inch BL Mk V reloaded faster than the 9.2-inch BL Mk XI, but not that much faster. 10 to 12 seconds compared to 12 to 20 seconds according to the listed rates of fire in reference material.
