  1. If Craddock had been aware that HMS Canopus was actually in remarkably good shape for her age and (lack of) refit status rather than being on the verge of completely breaking down, I would imagine he would've done much better.

  2. Von Spee also made the mistake of waiting too long before accepting a battle to the death in hopes of letting his smaller ships escape. His best chance would've been to charge at full speed immediately with Scharnhorst and Gneisenau into Port Stanley while Sturdee's squadron was still at anchor. That way even if the British ships managed to get up steam and leave port, they'd essentially have to come at him one at a time. And any ships sunk, either Sturdee's or his own (the latter being the likely outcome had it been Invincible or Inflexible that came out first), would've blocked the channel to the rest of the squadron and allowed his light cruisers all the time in the world to escape.

  3. Since you say "K klass" I presume you mean the Reichsmarine/Kriegsmarine cruisers, rather than either of the Kaiserliche Marine Königsberg-classes.
