  1. Part of the reason MacArthur was in the Philippines in the first place is so that he would be physically as far from Washington, DC as possible. Nobody in charge wanted to deal with him more than they had to.

  2. ​ @awokennightmare4075  I'd guess 20-inch would've been as big as it would get. That would be around the upper limit of a shell that could be loaded fast enough to be of practical use in naval combat.
