Pity she wasn't repaired and brought into Royal Navy service as HMS Glorious. Even with the damage she took, that hull seems like it probably had a lot of life left in it.

@themanformerlyknownascomme777 It wasn't a matter of whether a triple 18 could be fit on a 108 foot beam, but that doing so would require a significantly wider barbette than was used for triple 16s. Tillman IV-1 and IV-2 were able to fit those wider barbettes because they weren't designed for speed in the way that Montana and especially Iowa were, having a maximum speed of only 25.2 knots. While Iowa's beam is the same 108 feet at maximum, her hull narrows much more rapidly as you approach the bow in order to allow her 33 knot speed. The limitations imposed by this are most significant when you get to the forwardmost turret, where there's IIRC less that 1 foot of clearance between the barbette and the inner bulkhead of the torpedo defense system.
