  2. With regard to battleships that survived WW2 and could make 30+ knots so as to be similarly useful to the Iowas? You forgot HMS Renown. In the Cold War era, the difference between a battleship and battlecruiser doesn't really mean much. The Soviets didn't have any big gun ships once Novorossiysk was lost, and ships with heavy armor were so rare that the Soviets didn't really bother with armor-piercing warheads on their anti-ship missiles. Renown had 31 knot top speed and 15-inch guns. When withstanding gunfire from a similarly-armed ship is no longer an issue, Renown is 3/4 of Vanguard's capability as a gunfire support ship. She's got less room for adding new equipment, but she's still not lacking in such room.
