IIRC, the Littorio-class battleships could turn their aft turret a whopping 70° forward (ie firing at a 20° angle off the bow). Unfortunately, a certain game that many of us play doesn't give them firing angles anywhere near that good.

48:12 Heck, the Mogadors (and the preceding French super-destroyers) didn't even use whole numbers for the caliber in millimeters either. Usually, metric is sufficient to explain odd French calibers. But not here. They were 138.6mm guns.

@grathian There were actually 71 of the OHPs. 24 by Bath Iron Works, 31 by Todd Pacific Shipyards, 2 by AMECON in Australia, 6 by Bazan in Spain, 8 by China Shipbuilding in Taiwan.

@richardcutts196 That seems like it certainly could have been done, and resulted in a useful pair of warships. But it's quite unlikely that they would have done it. Even if Graf Spee and Mackensen's hulls (or even an intact German battlecruiser like if Derfflinger or Hindenburg hadn't been scuttled) had been claimed, the most that might've happened would've been to study their design enough to make the Lexingtons not as terrible a design.

IIRC, Star Trek basically uses technobabble to make inertia not matter.

Regarding the disposition of the High Seas Fleet had they not been scuttled, who would've been likely to get what? I presume the British would've insisted on getting first bidding on account of actually possessing the fleet and having suffered the heaviest naval losses in the war, but every other member of the Allies certainly would've cried foul if they tried to claim all 4 of the most desirable capital ships (Baden, Bayern, Hindenburg, and Derfflinger).

Well, some Greek letters get skipped, so we know that could happen with later variants. Nu was skipped because it would confuse people by sounding like "new", for example. I'm guessing that Pi will also be skipped because "pie variant" would sound too silly. And they probably won't want to use Omega because that would give the impression that it's the last variant, and it probably wouldn't be. At that point they'll need to come with a different naming scheme.
