Quite a few carriers built in WW2 ended up named for battles in WW2. The US was building so many CVs and CVEs that they needed a ton of names.

@Mishn0 Ironically, that tradition came about by complete accident. Out of the 6 Lexington-class battelcruisers, only Lexington and Saratoga were named after battles. All 6 were named after a notable warship from the Revolutionary War or War of 1812, and that was the naming scheme used for CVs up to the Essex-class. That's how names like Ranger, Enterprise, Hornet, Wasp, and Essex ended up in the mix. But at that point they realized so many of the Essex-class were going to be built that they alone would use up all of the good names, even accounting for the reused names of carriers that were sunk. But it was also noticed that quite a lot of those Revolutionary War and War of 1812 ships shared the names of major battles (either be coincidence or intentionally). So that became the new naming scheme, with half of the Essex-class CVs and Independence-class CVLs along with huge numbers of CVEs got battle names. Though quite a lot of the CVEs were also named after small bodies of water.

@Mishn0 The other Lexington-class CCs were Constellation, Ranger, Constitution, and United States.
