  1. I seem to recall something about Mogador's design flaws including a larger turning radius than Dunkerque. When a destroyer needs more room to turn than a battleship, that's kind of a problem.

  2. IIRC, the Sheridan's gun actually was rifled. And a longer-barrel version (firing the same Shillelagh ATGM and 152mm shells, but with high velocity for the shells) was used on the M60A2 "Starship" and the MBT-70 and XM803 prototypes. And the Israeli LAHAT missile can be fired out of standard L7 105mm rifled guns (along with just about any other tube of 105 to 120mm diameter).

  3. The advantage of a battleship's guns over bombs dropped from aircraft for shore bombardment is that the battleship can drop those shells every 30 seconds for up to an hour.
